About

Hi, I am Otávio Carvalho, a Distributed Systems engineer, originally from Pelotas, Brazil and currently living in Barcelona, Spain. I am passionated about Distributed Systems and I have been focusing on this field for applied engineering and research for more than 10 years.

Currently I’m working as a Lead Engineer for New Relic focusing on Distributed Event Processing for the Entity Platform. You can find more about my engineering career on LinkedIn.

I am both BSc and MSc in Computer Science from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), several times ranked the best university for Computer Science in Latin America.

During my period in academia, I have published research papers in top-rated peer reviewed conferences worldwide in the topics of Distributed Systems, Cloud Computing, Edge Computing, Fog Computing and Internet Of Things, as a member of the The Parallel and Distributed Processing Group (GPPD) research group. You can find more about my research publications on Google Scholar.
